Ed Dubois final superyacht design

Challenge

S/Y Ngoni – known as the Beast – was the last superyacht designed by Ed Dubois. The owners brief was, “Build me a beast. I don’t want a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

The project manager said the owner was adamant with his needs, “He wanted a boat that was fast and aggressive looking, a visual weapon with no superfluous systems. He wanted a sailor’s superyacht and didn’t want to compromise on speed by adding more beam or a bunch of extra cabins.”

With this brief, Royal Huisman approached Bowmaster regarding the Submarine Anchor Deployment System. This was an essential part of the project as it allowed for the fast, undisturbed look of the bow.

The unique shape of the bow meant for a tight-fitting system that would require 3D scanning, constant communication and precision.

Bowmaster and sister company, Manson Anchors had worked with Royal Huisman before, so a trusted and collaborative relationship existed.

Solution

The lines of Ngoni were unlike any yacht of her size. Ed Dubois came up with the hull concept that then went through extensive testing before the design progressed.

Bowmaster’s Technical Director visited Royal Huisman’s Shipyard in The Netherlands to 3D scan the hull to ensure the most accurate fit. Thanks to the precision scanning, the system was approved quickly, and fabrication went ahead.

With tight guidelines the key to success with this project was continuous communication with the Royal Huisman team.

The system fabricated was a dual patented Bowmaster Submarine Anchor System with two Manson Submarine Anchors. Fabricated in 316L stainless steel, this system provided a robust solution for the award-winning yacht S/Y Ngoni.

The final system was delivered and installed as one unit. The system was a perfect fit and operated beyond the client’s expectations.
